Samsung phone + Mac OS X ???

G'day,

I have a Samsung x640 mobile phone (purchased 2006).

I've just bought a USB data cable for it, but cannot get it to talk to OS X... either directly (ie through Network control panel) or via 3rd party applications.

Can anyone suggest how to get these two to make friends?

I'm wanting to get the photos off the camera... (and it doesn't have bluetooth)

cheers

It doesn't mount as a disk image of any kind...

It shows up in System Profiler as "USB-UART Controller" (which is the file name of the PC- driver that came on the PC instal disc).

USB-UART Controller:

Version: 0.01
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: ArkMicroChips
Product ID: 0x0232
Vendor ID: 0x6547

I've also just tried running Virtual PC, installed the software off that PC disc... but still it doesn't talk... 😟

Samsung has software and manuals for this model at [Samsung's web site|http://www.samsung.com/me/products/mobilephones/gsm/sgh_x640.asp] The site was busy so I couldn't see if they had anything for Mac, and of course it would have to be a Tiger version, not Leopard.

Virtual PC is pretty old and probably won't help any.

Have you tried using Disk Utility to see if it will mount?

I found a file with USB drivers to talk to samsung stuff, but after installation, still no good.

The phone does not mount as a disk image/any other format, either direct to the Finder, or under Disk Utility.

I emailed Samsung's tech people - they say there is no (official) software for Mac (for my phone).

Virtual PC can boot up Windows (2000 in my case), and can access USB ports... so I thought it would work, as the software I downloaded off their site was all PC and kind of mentioned my phone... but it didn't work.)

I too have a Samsung phone and the only way it is recognised on my mac is when I boot into a Windows partition on Bootcamp. It appears that the Mac OS does not exist as far as Samsung is concerned. The only way to gain full functionality on a computer for the Samsung phone is via Windows. Sorry I cannot be of more help but I've been down the road you are on and gave up.
Failing that. If there are files on your phone you want to place on the mac, you can always bluetooth them.

Hi! I have a question that goes along with this. I got a samsung blackjack II phone and successfully tethered it to my MacBook (using the instructions provided here by winninganthem) and have been using it happily to surf the internet. (I have an unlimited data/tethering plan no worries!)
Now here's my question..I also have a Zune player. I have read that I need to install a Windows operating system on my Mac to be able to sync my Zune with my Mac. I have done that...I installed Windows Vista, and have my computer partitioned so that I have both operating systems on it. Everything is working fine. Except I don't know how to now tether my Samsung Blackjack II with my computer when I have it started up in Windows Vista, to connect to the internet. Anyone? Thanks so much.
