DVD unreadable

I made a DVD in iMovieHD, which I burned to DVD using Toast Titanium. The disk played and I watched it in different players. I made a copy for my son and he was able to view it on his PC. Now, neither disc is readable. I currently use iMovie 6. The computer does not recognize the disc at all and ejects it. The DVD was of our 2007 vacation to Yellowstone and I still have the still images and DV tape, but I really don't want to remake the video. How can it be possible that a DVD that once worked perfectly, is no longer recognized?

Not anywhere? Even on the players they were played on before?

Exposed to sunlight.
Scratched
Fingerprints
Written on in the wrong place and/or wrong type of pen
Put a label on that isn't perfectly centerred

Hi

As Lennart writes - LABLE - Don't ever put any sticky lable on a DVD. They get
uncentered and stop working.

Else

What brand ?
• I only use Verbatim

What type ?
• I only use DVD-R

How fast did You burn it ?
• In iDVD08/09 one can set burn speed down to x1
• Previous - Save as a DiskImage and burn this with Disk Util tool (or Roxio Toast™)

This will work better and longer.

Bengt W,

I have used Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media for years without any problems. I never use sticky labels. I wrote on this DVD with a marker, as I did to the copy I made for my son which won't work now either. The Burn Speed was set to "Best", so it burned at an automatic speed, which won't go above 4X due to my internal drive. Whan I originally made the movie, I used iMoveHD and saved it as a Disk Image, then I used Toast or Popcorn to burn the Disk Image. I've used this method for ages without any issues until now. I'm stumped.
