Adding Audio to Still Photos

I'm a new user of iMovie, and trying to complete a project. I have the photos, titles and transitions in, but need help with the audio. I've placed my first song in the timeline below. I then put the playhead where I wanted the second song to begin, and placed that. The first song, however, lasts longer that I need it to, and so I need to know how to end the first song, preferable with a "fade," and then have the second song begin. I've tried to figure it out myself and have ended up with more yellow dots, purple dots, and purple squares than I ever knew existed! Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Robert - to trim the unwanted end of the song, highlight the song, and place the playhead where you want the cut made. Leave enough to include a fade-out. Then use Command+T, which will split the song. Then highlight and delete the end you don't need.
See the following link which explains audio editing:
http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/audio/
Plus, of course, the Help File.
But briefly, click on the volume level bar at the point where you want the music to have completely faded. This will produce a yellow dot and a purple square. Drag the yellow dot down to the bottom, and pull the purple square to the left as far as you want the fade to extend.
Clear as mud?!

Hope this helps

Hi, Robert and catspaw:

Catspaw: I clicked on the above link, and was taken to an iLife support page. Great, except the one choice that Robert would want...how to add audio to a movie...gave the "document not found" message! 😟

Robert, catspaw's directions are right on the money.
I find it easier to turn off the volume levels and audio wave forms--eliminates all those yellow, purple lines and circles for awhile.

Just play the audio to the point where you want it to stop, then, being sure the audio clip is highlighted, go to Edit->Split audio clip at playhead. After the clip is in two parts, click on the 'extra' part you don't want, highlighting it and then click 'delete' to remove it. Then, go back and choose 'show clip volume' on the remaining good clip so that you can click on the line where you want the sound to fade out, and drag the volume down a little. You might have to experiment with that to get the right effect.
If you want the next song to come in as that one fades, you can just drag its audio clip to overlap the first one a little so that the songs seem to flow smoothly.

Hope this helps!
