Kodak 3in1 will not print in black

MacBook v10.5.6 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

USB connected Kodak 5300 All In One Printer

Suddenly will not print in black. The black ink cartridge was replaced yesterday, printed off of four A4 sheets, then stopped.
Colour printing is fine. I deep cleaned the print heads, downloaded and installed new drivers and firmware.

All that happens when I click PRINT is that the printer kicks in, shows it is printing, but all I get is a blank sheet of paper.

This happens when using the same printer with an eMac running OS10.4.11 and a MacBook 10.5.6, both using a USB connection with both machines, and with separate cables.

The printer is just out of warranty, has always been problematic, but I have never experienced this before. I can find no help at the Kodak site, and have run out of ideas as what to try next.

Can anyone suggest a solution, apart from dropping it from a great height?

kate2006,

Verify that the ink cartridges are intact and securely inserted into the printhead, then make the same print.

1. Lift the printer access door, then remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
2. Verify that the label on the ink cartridges is intact, and the cartridges are not damaged.
3. Insert the ink cartridges into the printhead, then press down firmly until you hear them click into position.
4. Close the printer access door, then make the same print.

If that doesn't work try:

Clean the printhead, then print a demo sheet.

1. Verify that inkjet paper is loaded in the paper trays.
2. Press Menu.
3. Select Clean Printhead, then press OK.
4. Select Deep Clean, then press OK. The On/Off light flashes green during the cleaning procedure.
5. When the On/Off light glows a steady green, select Print Demo Sheet, then press Start.

I hope that helps

Thanks Westongallagher:

Been there, done that, but still won’t print in black. I had put a new cartridge in the day this problem started, & had checked & double checked it was securely attached. Since then I have tried another new Kodak ink cartridge, which made no difference.
I have also done the clean print head, etc as you suggested, colour printing is, and always has been fine, but still no black.
Thanks for your suggestions though.
