Inserting Picture in Video Clips iMovie '09

How can i insert pictures into a video on iMovie '09 without using the options of replace or insert, like I could on iMovie '08? I want to be able to still see the video in the background while looking at the picture I choose to use. Please advise.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

First go into iMovie PReferences and enable Advanced Tools.

Now, when you drag your photo on top of the video clip, you will have additional options, including Cutaway and Picture in Picture.

You drag your "in picture" clip (or still) and drop it on the "picture" clip, and a pop up menu will come up. Select picture in picture. Then you can control the size and placement of the PIP much like you would control a Ken Burns effect.

Use "Cutaway" instead of Picture in Picture.

I can see where more tools became available, but where is the picture-in-picture tool actually located on the screen?

How do i remove the box around the picture that i inserted into the video, so that the only thing i see is the picture inserted and nothing else?

Hi!
I saw your discussion regarding PiP.
Do you know if one can put a photo (still)
picture in to a photo (still) picture?
I have tried without success.

Hi Hans,

I just tested here and yes, you can use a still image as a PIP for another still image.
