Problems with Ipod Touch Wi-Fi

I know this is long, but please! I'm sick of my ipods problems! Help me!
Ever since the last update that was meant to fix problems with Wi-Fi and push technology, Ive been having a problem with my ipod staying connected to Wi-Fi when its in sleep mode. If i leave my ipod in sleep mode for a few minutes, it will disconnect from Wi-Fi. It is extremely annoying because it can take up to a minute to reconnect. I have taken my ipod to be seen by geek squad because of previous problems such as my ipod locking up when in sleep mode, gradually was getting slower and slower so it wouldnt play youtube videos and internet was slow, etc. Obviously, the guy at geek squad just told me to restore it again. I had already restored it but he told me to do it again. I have restored it via itunes and ipod but still it wont stay connected. When i restored it again, it began taking longer to reconnect to wi fi. This happens on all internet connections. If it makes a difference, i have comcast high speed internet with a microsoft router (which they dont make anymore) and a 16gb ipod touch 1st generation. Although the router is old, it works fine with my laptop, xbox 360, and PS3.

Another quick problem im having is itunes not syncing some album artwork. It's not that it just doesnt sync it and it shows a gray album cover with a music note, its that some of the albums are just black. Also when in the sideways view, some of the albums dont show up until i scroll over them so there is always albums just popping up out of no where.

Please! Help! I don't want to take it back to geek squad because i totally see them telling me to restore it again. Although I'm almost sure its just my crap ipod, i am really hoping there is a way that i can fix this problem.

OK, you are going to find this hard to believe, but there is nothing wrong with your touch. It will disconnect from WiFi when in the sleep mode and it will take some time to reconnect to your network (which is probably due to the age of your router more than anything).

Restoring really doesn't have any impact on network connections so you can really stop doing that. It probably would not hurt to reset your network settings. You do this in Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. When it is done, it will restart your iPod. You will need to logged back into your network.

Routers can get kind of cranky as well. Usually they just need to be restarted. Unplug the thing to restart it.

You should do a search in the Discussion groups about album art or click the link at the top of the page to Support and read about it there.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have tried restoring the network settings and i have restarted router. I am just so disappointed because my ipod is the only one out of all my friends and family that does this(I know about 15 people with ipod touches and one with iphone). My router works fine with my ps3, xbox 360, and laptop. By the way, its not just my router. It does it with any of them. I have had friends that say their ipod has problems with album artwork too. And, if it makes a difference, it started doing this after i got an update via itunes. Also, the restores made it take longer to reconnect to the router so i really think its just my ipod. I guess im just gonna have to deal with it. Maybe version 3.0 will fix it just as 2.1 or so destroyed it.

One thing i just dont understand is why geek squad did what did to my ipod. I told them that it wouldnt stay connected to my router and the guy tested my battery and hard drive. What does this have to do with that? He also told me to restore it. I mean, no offense to geek squad, but my brother could go in there and teach these guys how to do this. He didnt go to college for this stuff either but he built all of our computers and anytime we have a problem, he knows exactly what to do. He also owns his own computer business and helps people fix their computers. The only problem is that he hates apple so he knows nothing about it. Apple is getting so annoying, coming out with newer versions of things every few months and making so much crap that no one needs. I just cant wait until microsoft steps it up and makes a touch screen, internet and email compatible, zune. Sorry, this is just so annoying and disappointing.

How does your iPod behave when you try to connect at a public WiFi site? Is it still pokey or does it seem to acquire the signal pretty fast?

I'm also thinking that your router probably only transmits in b mode. This is a really slow and short ranged WiFi protocol. Your other devices will continue to connect just fine but they have more robust WiFi systems than touch. I personally would upgrade my router. $40 will buy you a pretty decent router.

2.1.1 had nothing to do with WiFi. It was a minor update to fix some issues with music skipping with no loss mp3 files and fuzzy pictures saved from Safari and e-mails.

Push has never worked in iPod touch/iPhone and you are going to have to wait to the 3.0 firmware version to fix it.

I still do not have a good handle on why your iPod is so slow in connecting to your network. I suppose the last thing you could try is a Restore (done through iTunes). That will reinstall your firmware and reload your library. It won't hurt anything and it may even fix the slowness you are seeing.

I dont understand why people are telling me that my ipod is supposed to disconnect when its in sleep mode. No other iphone or ipod touch does that, and I'm sure apple is dumb enough to make people wait about a minute before they can use their ipod touch's wifi when they take it out of sleep mode. Please, only post on this discussion if you know what your talking about.
