Stolen iPod

Hi all. Being new to the iPod community this might be a stupid question...

My week old iPod Classic 120gb was stolen recently.
I know that the itunes thing talks to the iPod and recognizes it by it's serial number somehow, Is it possible to have my stolen iPod blocked so that if the thief tries to use it, it will be recognized as stolen and unusable?

This also happened to me recently. Bought the 4th generation nano only to be pick pocketed 2 weeks later! I enquired about a kill switch to stop my ipod ever working again. Lets face it less ipods will be stolen if the theives know that they will be killed quickly by the owner, something mobile phones started along time ago. However apple refuses to do this and I now find my self thinking I will never buy an ipod again as I can't afford to just buy a new one every time someone pickpockets me. Thank you apple for supporting local criminals!

Sorry - this was meant to be in response to Kiruku...

This has been said many times before on these boards - how exactly would a kill switch work since the internet is not necessary to sync an iPod? Yes, some features will not work - album art cannot be added automatically and you could not purchase music from the iTunes Store without the internet - but iTunes works fine otherwise off-line. Do you hold manufacturers of other MP3 players to the same requirement?

Mobile phone carriers can do this (and no, not all do) because their networks are required to use a cell phone. The phone is not actually disabled, it is blocked from that carrier's network; if you could unlock the phone, it would still work on a competitor's network.
