Stuck at Keyboard selection.

Ok, here's my issue. I just recently reinstalled Mac OS X 10.4. I have gotten to the Getting Started screen and everything is fine and dandy until I hit the Select your Keyboard section. So I select Canada and hit continue, and wait. The longest I waited for this to respond has been half a day. I got to this part of the installation before I went to school, came home and it was still stuck there.

I don't know if it's bad disks(it is literally the first time I've used them) or if there's an issue with the keyboard. Unfortunately it's my only USB keyboard, so I can't swap out known good for suspected bad.

EDIT: I am able to go back in the installation, and the keyboard responds to the up arrow and down arrow while trying to select anything. I have also tried restarting, and running the reinstall again, in case a file did not copy over correctly, and still, same result.

Just double checking... It's not then displaying something like Press key immediately to the right of the left Shift Key, or something like that?

No, it is not. All it says is "Choose a keyboard layout, and click continue". Below that are my choices for the keyboard layouts and underneath that, is the Go Back button and my greyed out Continue button.

Hi.

Try quitting the Setup Assistant by hitting Command+Q before the layout selection. If you can log in, you should be able to set the keyboard correctly in System Preferences.

I just tried your suggestion, Henry G4, and it gave me an error message "Before you can use Mac OS X you must create your login account. Click continue to proceed with setting up your computer"

My options after that are Shutdown and Continue. Continue just clears the dialog box and I'm back to my original problem 😟

Well, I think you should boot from your install disk, and run Disk Utility, verify/repair the disk and permissions. If that doesn't work, you should try another keyboard (some windows usb keyboards may work, if you can borrow one).
