Dock Trash too close to folder

Can a space be put between the trash can and a folder on the dock.

Sometimes I miss the folder and it accidentally goes in the tras. Can you put a spacer like you can in the tool bar?

thanks

You can right-click the item and select trash rather than drag it around the desktop.
You can also select it and press Cmd-Del and send it to the trash.
And if you turn the Dock magnify up high, the space between the Trash and next icon will expand greatly, and the Trash icon will grow, as your cursor nears the Trash.
