Bluetooth: Cannot pair MacBook Pro 15" (early 2009) and Nokia cell phones

When I try to pair my Nokia cell phone (E65) with my new MacBook Pro 15", the bluetooth assistant hangs after the input of the pairing code. I tried another Nokia cell phone in addition (N70), but had the same issue.
When I initiate the pairing by the phone, then the pairing process seems to be successful, but I still cannot use the bluetooth connection with the phone afterwards (e.g. browsing files on it, 3G internet connection). The connection becomes established for a few seconds, but then the phone is being disconnected.
I never had these problems using my old black MacBook. It still works when I try today. So it must be an issue of the new MBP.
I successfully paired the New MBP with my old MB via Bluetooth - could transfer files for example without any problems. Therefore I think that the Bluetooth hardware (Broadcom) seems to work properly.
The MacBook Pro 15" has the Broadcom chipset, while the old black MacBook has the Cambridge Silicon Radio chipset. Maybe there's an incompatibility between Broadcom and Nokia (?)

Any ideas? Thanks!

I also have an early 2009 15" MBP and am experiencing bluetooth pairing problems. When I first started this computer, I successfully paired my Sonyericsson HBH-DS980 headphones. While using this connection, I accidently lost the connection by moving out of range. After this, the headphones would not re-connect. I deleted the headphones from the MBP bluetooth configuration and tried unsuccessfully to discover and re-pair. I also have another pair of SE HBH-DS220s. They initially paired and worked properly with my MBP and again after loss of connection, would not re-connect or re-pair. I do not have this problem with my first generation MBP so I know it must be something with the bluetooth system in my new MBP. I don't know anything about Mac operating systems, but I bet there is some log file somewhere that is logging a bluetooth problem and thereby locking out that type of device. I would really appreciate a MAC guru's help.
Thanks

Dan

I visited an Apple Store today. They know about the problem. Newest Mac Books with Bluetooth Software version f13 (see system profiler, first line in "Bluetooth") are known to have connection issues with Nokia S60 phones. Apple is "watching" it.
I tried other Unibody MacBooks today. If the BT version is f8, it works, if it is f13, it doesn't.

Hi

Just got my new MBP 15" and and having some of the troubles connecting to my new Nokia 5800 as well.

I too have the f13 bluetooth version

I can connect via iSync and transfer all my contacts etc via bluetooth but cannot connect the data to access internet/email etc, It will however connect for this via the USB cable using the modem script from www.taniwha.org.....very annoying!!

I either get an RF Comm failure or that the modem is not responding......Any one got any ideas??

Cheers

Same problem for me. I tried several Nokia phones: 6680, E65, E70.
Before, on my previous Mac Book Pro (Non Unibody), they worked fine.
I have now Broadcom Chip with 2.1.5f13 software.

Now, interesting, I just get a Nokia E66 and surprise, I was able to pair it to my MBP. Strange, isn't it? Or does that mean that Nokia latest generation phones are able to handle this small difference?

Further to my above post....

The phone and MBP pair ok and iSync works fine over BT and I can Browse the 5800 using BT.....however I cant use the phone as a modem.....I keep getting the RFCOMM failure box!

It all works fine using the cable connection to the phone.....but I would love to connect wirelessly.

Anyone got any ideas.....so far have tried repairing the phone and MBP.....deleting the pref files......running the 10.5.7 combo updater....still no joy!

Finally!!!!......

Just updated the firmware on the phone (again!) and all is now OK.....annoyingly had use my partners PC to do it as it the Nokia updater kept losing connection when running on Parallels and there is dire warnings about disconnecting the cable thought it might be a not a good idea to risk it....might be OK on Bootcamp tho....

At last have working internet using bluetooth.....downside is was about to get new iPhone 3GS instead but there is poor O2 coverage where I most need it and I get 3.5G on T-Mobile.....ho hum!!

Hope this helps someone!!
