Hi michael,

sorry I cannot help you, but for the rest of the bunch reading here:

* we get many reports, converters and D8, as michael's camera, were not recognized any more, even when the setup worked with iM4... as an example, from Matti's site

* some very silly result googleing, 22jan2003 (three!), quote
After you upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may experience problems when you try to use your digital video (DV)
camera. The Panasonic NV-C5 DV camera may not be enumerated correctly
when you plug it into your computer. The camcorder driver is not
loaded, but no error messages are reported....

so, our actual iMovie5 problem WAS a another problem on the darker side before...??

Hi Michael:
Number one; be sure your camera is Mac Compatible. If it has a firewire it probably is...

What do you mean by "can't see it? Does imovie contol the camera but not import? Or is it that it can't see it since upgrading to ilife 5?

Run a disk repair and repair permissions. Turn off Filevault if you have it on. Turn of all other apps while using imovie.

Michael,
Only use a tape tape which doesnt have any important stuff on it just in case....
Try this, it's working for me .
Close the tab on the tape . Switch from playback mode to record standby to see if you get a picture on your mac. Then switch back to playback mode. I think the problem is a very weak "recognition" factor in imovie 5.
Open a Quicktime recording window (Can't recall if you need the pro vesion to do this.)See if you can record that way.
There are some Freeware recording apps. which mght try to see if they recognise your camera - http://www.dvforge.com/downloads.shtml
There's another one , but can't remember the name at the moment
