DVD Studio Pro DVD will not play in DVD player... WTF!

Alright here is my situation. DVDSP is the one app I have stayed away from, I always used iMovie, well I am sick of using iMovie, I want to build nicer menus. So I have everything set right in Compressor, m2v and ac3, I import into DVDSP, everything links up right (or appears too) my menu buttons are set correctly (or appears to be) I run simulator everything plays like it should, I format, then burn, everything goes thru with no error messages. I put the DVD in my DVD player, and it says unknown disc? What am I doing wrong? any suggestions. I am in the process of filming weddings on the side, so I most definitely need to get this figured out!!! So any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks alot...

Did you make an HD DVD? (Take a look at what folders are being created in you build destination, if you see something other than VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS, you probably made an HD DVD. Open the DVD in Finder and see if HVDVD_TS is on the disc.)

You cannot change a HD project to SD once it is HD so it needs to be recreated. In preferences you can set the default to SD.

Also, did you set a first play on the DVD?

yes I did make an HD DVD, I set the preferences to HD, but I noticed when it was building or burning that it stated it was a SD DVD, and yes I did set first play. Ok let me ask this, the build location, I went to library, cache, dvdstudiopro, in there it says video_ts and audio_ts, if the build destination is somehwhere different then I overlooked that and do not know where I put it. I don't know if I made any sense/

If it was HD DVD it will not play (or if the same build location has the HD DVD folder also and it burned all to the disc)

When you open up the build dialog (do not use Build & Format, start with Build) you can assign a new folder to build to. Usually I will have a seperate folder for each project on a disc that is easy to navigate around and not buried down. I have Macintosh HD (which is the system and rest) then another hard drive, called Sotrage or whatever, then make a folder like 20090326_MyProjectName, so the folder is for the build March 26, 2009 for the project.

If you use the inspector for the project you can see what type of project it is.

If you click on the disc in the blue section of the upper left the inspector is in the lower right as shown here

I just have to say to people who have this problem... BE CAREFUL!

I have had this problem for sometime (but it has not been pressing) and today I did a search to see what my problem was. When I saw Drew's comment about being an HD-DVD I thought "Oh come on... that's the first thing people look at".

But, I looked anyway and sure enough, there it was... the HD folder. The whole time it was in HD mode and not SD mode (but for some reason, Simulator was showing "SD").

Good thing I have the new Mac Pro... only took minutes to re-do the DVD project and then burn it. Success!!

Sometimes, the answer is simple and right in front of you. Thanks Drew! Remember everyone, keep it simple! The simple answers are usually the correct answers. You get the idea.
