Import HD from camera on G5

Have imovie 08 on a G5, when I try to import from an HD camera the camera is recognised but a popup tells me I need an intel mac to import HD and set the camera to standard format. Which version of imovie or setup do I need to to import HD please?

G5, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

You have a couple of options...

1) You can get an Intel Mac.

2) You can buy a third party app called Voltaic HD. It should convert your HD files from AVCHD to Apple Intermediate Codec so they can be edited on your G5. Voltaic will be quite slow, but you can let it run overnight, and it is cheaper than buying a new Mac.
