Thumnails on accounts gone

I recently had to reset my mail accounts. I previously had thumbnail images for each account which correlated to the address book card in the showing in the mailbox pane next to each account and also on the mail header on outgoing messages. This was particularly useful for being able to quickly see which account you were sending a message from. I can't seem to find a setting which will put these icons back

The addresses in the address book match the accounts and I thought this would happen automatically
Anyone have any ideas?
