Time Machine error OSStatus error -6602

I am using a Netgear ReadyNAS Pro,
I was using it for my timemachine backups
For no reason it now will not back up and when I log on I get the following error
OSStatus error -6602
Can anyone suggest how to solve my problem
Thank you

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

First, you should know that what you're doing isn't officially supported by Apple. Some folks get it to work, but do so at your peril, as a future update may prevent it entirely.

Are you sure the drive is formatted properly? It must have the GUID partition map scheme for an Intel Mac; or Apple Partition Map for a PPC Mac; and the format must be Mac OS Extended (journaled).

If it is formatted that way, then search this forum for 6602 You'll find a number of similar threads.

I had the same issue using multiple Macs and a ReadyNAS PRO. It has to do with rights; TimeMachine protects data from being overwritten by a stranger in this way. It is part of the AFP protocol. Trick: It helped me to delete some old Timemachine backups from the same Mac on the ReadyNAS PRO. I did that by accessing the ReadyNAS over CIFS, login as admin (Frontview password), than you access volume /C and you make sure you can see hidden files. (Use the Secrets pref pane or another tool to make hidden files visible). In that way you can make folder .Timemachine visible and delete the backup folder called .sparsebundle. (Make sure you do not delete valuable backed up data). After that you can log out, access TimeMachine and setup ReadyNAS again as your new backup disk
