iPhone 3G wont send and receive text messages

As the subject line says, the iPhone 3g wont send and receive test messages. I have two iphones -- mine and my wife's. I can send to her and nothing appears. She can send to me and nothing appears. I can send and receive with mine with no problem. I've restored and updated the software.

MacBook Air / iMac / iPhone 3G (8gb and 16gb), Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.

If you go to Settings - General - Network - and turn 3G off, when you get the E for EDGE are you able to then send and receive?

If you are go back to Settings - General - Network - turn 3G on, are you then able to send and receive?

If you find this is not working especially after the restore. You may wish to contact your cellular provider for further assistance with SMS. They can check and ensure you have the proper data package and it is setup properly and offer further network troubleshooting.

Neither of those options changed anything. Phone has been hit and miss with sending and receiving text messages since we bought it in July. Hasn't really become an issue until recently, so now I want it fixed.

I'm currently on hold for an AT&T rep.

Go to ATT and get a new SIM card. I had the same problem. They gave me a new one for free and it took like 10 mins. Has been working perfect since then.
