APPLE TV DROPPING ITS CONNECTION TO MY WIRELESS ROUTER

My Apple TV recently starting dropping the connection to my wireless router, everyday, I have to go into the NETWORK settings and re-establish the connection to the router...???

In addition, I too, am getting the "format errors" where it will tell me it cannot play a movie due to format errors. I am also experiencing errors in downloading, it will download half the TV show or movie and then it will come up saying it cannot finish downloading the show...???

I am wondering if its my APPLE TV or my router? I have a linksys WRT310N router...any suggestions anyone?

IMAC, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

I am seeing this same issue.

My wireless router is a Time Capsule, and I have no other issues with any other wireless client devices on my network.

Every day or two, though, my AppleTV drops its wireless connection, and needs me to manually reconnect to the network *and re-enter the password* to get it back on the network.

Interestingly, when this happens, I notice that the AppleTV also needs me to re-enter my iTunes password the next time I want to access iTunes Store content.

Is this a hardware issue? Should I take it in for repair/replacement?

I know this used to be a software issue on the AppleTV in general, but thought it had been resolved for most people with the most recent AppleTV software updates.

You can add me to the list of persons having the same issue. My issue with my ATV loosing the wireless connection with my Time-Capsule seemed to begin just about the time Apple's latest ATV software update. Related? Who knows?

I loose the connection just about every day. The only resolution that works for me is firing up ATV, going into settings and reconnecting it to iTunes using the random 4 digit code. This is getting beyond annoying having to repeat it almost as a daily ritual.

Supposedly Apple does not read these forums, so if any user has experienced this issue and has figured out how to resolve it, PLEASE share it with us. Thanks. 🙂

I haven't had the best experience with Apple's Tech Support recently. (trying to resolve a syncing MobileMe issue with them which is going into week 3) <sigh>

Add me to this list of problems also. All worked well until we had some updates. I have Time Capsule and it was so bad that I connected my apple TV to Time Capsule with a network cable and the iMac I have my iTunes on also to Time Capsule with a network cable. Not what I had in mind after purchasing all the latest and top of the range apple wirless devices. We also use our iTouch, iPhone, another iMac and iBook on the "wireless" network, but you would not think that we have a highspeed cable connection ... it all works SO SLOW!

you can perform a factory reset. this will revert it back to 2.0, I too have one of my ATV installed wireless. When it drops the connection, i have to press synch again and get an error the port 3689 needs to be opened. even when this is done it wont synch. So have to to perform a complete factory reset to get it synching again. This a first release of the second gen. and has been very unreliable, i lost close to $50 worth of movies that refused to sunch back to my itunes server. This unit will most likley become target practice....some days it works great then some days it just hangs there saying its synching doing nothing!!!

I have the same problem with ATV and Time Capsule.
It was rock solid until the recent ATV update then the Wi-Fi config just keeps dissapearing.
I reset my ATV to factory defaults and did not allow it to update it's self but unfortunatly this has not resolved the issue.
I have fiddled with the Wi-Fi setting channel security etc but no change.
My iPhone and other WiFi devices are quite happy with Time Capsule as the WiFi base it's just ATV that's just too unreliable, I think the only way out is to run a cable between them now.

Mine has also been playing up, I think it happened after the recent update for the ATV.

I will open iTunes and my ATV that I use most mornings as a airtunes speaker and every other day it does not show up in iTunes, so I go to the ATV menu and the network settings are empty. I have to re connect to my airport network which is a time capsule and re enter my networks password then it reappears in iTunes??

I dont really understand why it cant remember the password for the selected network in the first place but why keep dropping the network settings??? Anyone got anywhere with an answer for this problem?

Hopefully this will help some of you...

I have an ATV with the latest software, a Airport Extreme (Gigabit), and 1st generation iPod Touch...

I updated my AE a few months ago to firmware v. 7.3.2 and all **** broke loose with my wireless network. ATV and Touch were constantly dropping connections, and the only resolution was to unplug my AE then plug it back in. This would work for a few minutes to a few hours each time. (I also live in a rural area, so this was NOT an interference problem.) I then downgraded my firmware on the AE back to 7.3.1 - everything worked like a charm again.

Being a glutton for punishment, I upgraded my AE this morning to v. 7.4.1. Guess what - same old problems. Downgraded at noon back to 7.3.1 and everything is working again. I won't be upgrading my firmware again.

Hope this helps some of you.

I have been noticing this same problem for close to a week now. I use a D-Link DIR-655. I can quit and restart itunes and my AppleTV shows up for about a minute and says it is syncing but then disappears from the device list. From the general menu on the AppleTV, I can see that I am connected to the network, just cant stay connected to itunes on my imac. I only started noticing it after the latest itunes update-havent seen a software update on the AppleTV in quite a while.
