show iphone display on external monitor

Does anyone know of a way to show what's on an iPhone screen on a television or monitor? Kind of like what Jobs did when he first introduced it.

iPhone 3G, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

No way to do so at the present time, the one used by Mr. Jobs was a one-off special model.

If the Macbooks can drive a second monitor, why can't iPhone? Same basic OSX?

I'm thinking a second monitor (e.g. a 10 inch monitor) might be better than tethering, because it will be lighter, cheaper and maybe faster. Won't have to depend on ATT. No additional monthly charge. Monitors are lighter than laptops. (A touch screen monitor would be ideal.) Can someone show me how to drive an external monitor with iPhone?

As already explained, the iPhone doesn't have the capability to run an external monitor. The iPhone OS is very different form OS X.

This is for viewing video files/movies stored on the iPhone, not for displaying the iPhone screen itself. You can send video to a monitor/TV with exiting cables and adaptors.

This will show movies from your iphone via the cable adapter to a monitor or TV using RCA video/audio inputs. But it is not very high rez - kind of blocky looking on the monitor. Also, the adapter has a usb for charging but I couldn't get the iphone to sync. But for the $7 price, you can't beat it. I'm going to use the adapter to show movies on the entertainment system in my Toyota Sienna.
