Transcoding MPEG2 files to Quicktime with Streamclip

No idea what compression to use! I tried Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC and at the end I get "Write access error".
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You are running OSX 10.4.4 Any reason for not updating? [Combo 10.4.11 updater for Intel Macs|http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html].

Do you have the mpeg-2 playback component that you have to buy from Apple to enable mpeg2 decoding?

The write access error sounds like something else. Did you repair permissions on your computer after installing Streamclip?

Hey! Thanks so much. Those are very good questions 🙂

I have a MacBookPro 10.5.6 Thanks for suggesting the upgrade though.

I'm not sure I have the mpeg-2 playback component, but I read somewhere that all Intel Macs come with it.

I recently purchased a new Mac with an Intel processor. Do I need to purchase a new MPEG-2 Playback Component?
No, Apple has updated the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X to be compatible with Intel-based Macs. This is a free update for past purchasers and is required for viewing MPEG-2 files with QuickTime Player on Intel-based Macs. If you are a past purchaser of the component, you can download the new software by visiting the Apple Online Store and clicking clicking on "Account" in the store menu. Click "Downloadable Software Purchases," enter your Apple ID and password, and you will see a link to the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. Click the link to download and install the new version.

No I don't think I "repaired permissions" how do I do that?

Thanks!!

The information in your first post said Tiger.

If this is a quote from somewhere what it means is if you had previously purchased the playback component then you do not have to buy the component again (but you do need to buy it the first time) for an Intel Mac. My Mac is quite old and has an upgraded OS, so I do not know what comes in the bundled software in newer Macs. I would tend to think not the component, unless you also have some of the advanced video editing software.
