Canon iR2200 Scanning

Hi There

My Dad's office computers are currently running Windows XP. They are becoming very old and I have convinced Dad to move to Mac.
However, we can't do that until we make sure that everything we do on windows can be done on mac.

Currently we use 'Microsoft Office Document Scanning' to computer archive documents at high speed on our Canon iR2200. I am looking for a program for Mac OS X Leopard that can do just that. It needs to be able to scan up to 60/70 pages in one document and save it (cannot be 70 different files for each page in the document).

If anyone can direct me to a piece of software that can do that I would be very thankful.

Mac OS X (10.5.6)

The iR2200 uses Canon's Network ScanGear on the PC to scan. This is Windows-only software. There is no support for scanning from OS X. On later models of iR devices there is a facility called Universal Send that lets you push-scan a document from the copier to the Mac via SMB or FTP. This is not available on your model, unless it is actually an iR2200i rather than an iR2200.

While there is probably a number of applications available for the Mac that can do the batch scanning function, the problem is getting the iR2200 to work with the Mac. AFAIK there is no way of getting this model to 'pull scan' to the Mac so you could look at using Boot Camp / VMware Fusion on the Mac so that you can run Windows, and then you could use Network ScanGear and the MS Doc Scanner app as you have been.

Or you look at trading in the iR2200 for something newer that will work on OS X. As I said, the new iR's can push scan to a shared folder on the Mac. They support TIFF and PDF (as an image) and some models even offer the PDF to be searchable - meaning that it the image is converted to text using a built-in OCR function.
