Canon MF4370dn - having problems with network printing

Just got this Canon laser multifunction unit, and had no problem setting it up as a USB printer. I'm having problems getting it to work with my Airport Extreme router. All my computers can see the printer via Bonjour and I can set set up their print queues and drivers. Nothing prints, though - the jobs are stuck in the queues.

Anyone else having network printing difficulties with the MF4370dn?

Having the same exact issue... detected, but nothing prints. Canon tech support says it wont work with airport or any print server and needs a router. If I use a netgear router (not print server), I can print - but not double sided. Too discouraged to even try the scanning feature wirelessly. This printer got great reviews on amazon, mac users included. I think I may have made a mistake with the purchase. Can't even return it any more.

Would appreciate any help.

I'm so fed up wth Canon support - they told me that I needed to try a non-Apple network hub. The printer went back to the retailer yesterday for a refund - I think I'm going to go with a Brother HL-2170W instead - they are Mac-friendly and seem to update their drivers frequently. I'll need to find another way to handle faxes and copying - every multifunction I have ever tried has been disappointing.

Ironically, the printer that I needed to replace was a Brother MFC-7420N - I think Brother's multifunction offerings (in contrast to their tank-like laser printers) are flimsy and prone to breaking.

Idiots. Obviously they don't know what Airport is.

This proves the point. The problem is with their software. I set up a Canon all-in-one with an Airport network. Everything worked except scanning, for which I had to use Windows. Their OS X version was gimpy and I don't know if they ever fixed it. Another reason to buy from a manufacturer that's serious about supporting OS X.

That's a good choice, but it's not an all-in-one like the Canon. I've been considering that one for the day my ancient HP finally decides to quit. Which may be never, since it was built back when HP actually cared about quality.

I don't have one, but the Brother MFC-490CW Color Inkjet Multifunction Printer seems to have good reviews. If you follow that link its price (which tends to rise and fall dramatically) is at the moment about the same as the laser printer you're considering.

I agree that generally speaking, all-in-ones are a design compromise that do none of their tasks especially well.

yup. my old inkjet hp multifunction died and i replaced it with this canon, carefully selecting the one that supported "bonjour." i wanted to use it over USB on the airport extreme but i'm getting the same behavior from the printer and from the tech 'support.' at least i know that a router will work.

now some *good news!* i might have a solution to your duplexing problem. the duplex feature was half the reason i got the thing (gotta save those trees!) and i was ready cry when that didn't work, even over direct USB (i could see the option for "2-sided" under "Layout" but it was grayed out). the solution was to set the Page Setup... from Any Printer to the Canon. don't know what would happen with apps that don't have "Page Setup..." like, well . . . Safari.
