Unknown user, incorrect password or login is disabled: after firmware upgra

I upgraded firmware of my Time Capsule from 7.3.2 to 7.4.1 and started seeing a bunch of problems. My setup has:
1. Windows XP desktop connected to TC via ethernet
2. Windows XP laptop connected to TC via WiFi

Network connectivity is fine for both computers.

The desktop is able to access the disk as before. However, the laptop is unable to connect to the disk. I get the error: "Unknown user, incorrect password or login is disabled. ...". I tried enabling guest access, but that doesn't work either. It gives exactly the same error, even though guest access is enabled.

Any clues?

I, too, have this problem (although the firmware that came with the device was newer, but I did upgrade it to the latest when was prompted to do so).

This is extremely aggravating, as a Google search turns up plenty of other forums with people reporting this same problem.

C'mon, Apple... what's the deal? We've spent a LOT of money on your products. How about showing a little appreciation by supporting a product that is clearly not working as advertised?

The same issue here; I get the NetBios meesage some times too.

The problem on both of my Time Capsule at home "Dual band" and at Work "Bought straight when first released"

It seems to be a firmware issue. By the way, I get the same error message on all PC "Vista & XP Pro"

I've had this issue for a really long time and I only recently stopped having it. I'm using the latest version of airport utility for windows and firmware 7.3.2 and that appears to solve the problem.

If anyone is interested in trying this out you can roll back firmware versions by using the mac airport utility and clicking on where it displays your firmware version. This should yield a dropdown menu with choices of previous firmware versions.

Well, I had this problem as well. What ***** about it is when you had Airport Agent running and it automatically add the drive as network drive. When its out and you click on My Computer, Explorer just froze and it needed a reboot just for that.

One thing about Apple is that they dont really give a **** about it. When I made a call to their service center, a girl pick up my line and given me instructions on how to get the firmware only to be busted by me who tried and fail for the last 3days. She just realised that the DOWNLOAD firmware actually points to a guide to revert the firmware via Airport. When she tried it with TC herself, then she realised the firmware server is down. I guess she runs out of idea when she asked me to reset the device with the pin instead of via Airport which I had done earlier. Even without reset, I could still access the drive IF I reboot the CRAP every now and then. 4days on and Apple still ***** bigtime.

Here is a workaround that works. The idea is to use the Windows system, instead of the Apple system, to connect each computer to the Airport's disk drive:

-Open the Windows Explorer for your computer, probably by clicking the "Start" button and then "Computer."
-Click <alt-t> and click "map drive"
-In the box that comes up tell the computer to map the name of your Airport (NOT the disk on the Airport). For example if your Airport is named "Den," type in Den. (Get the name of the Airport by running the Airport Utility program. We have to run it from our Apple computer)

If that doesn't work turn off your firewall and try again. If it works then, monkey around with your firewall permissions until it does work.

You might have to reboot the computer between steps to be sure your caches are cleared out.
