While using Firefox a popup appeared, from best4scan.info saying to download to protect and keep my info secure, is this a virus? anyone know what I should do? I closed Firefox right away, but when I go into it I cannot get rid of this popup. Should I be getting antivirus software or is this download legit?

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...

    There are no Mac viruses.

In Firefox from the Menu Bar, click Firefox/Preferences. Click the Content tab and make sure
    Block pop-up windows is selected.

The pop up you see is just trying to get you to buy anti-virus software. Nothing more. Never click on any links in those windows. The only time you would need anti-virus software on a Mac is if you are running Windows with BootCamp or Parallels.

Go here for help with Firefox. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window

Good deal. Always good to be cautious on the internet.

Another thing to do is install the "AdBlock Plus" add-on for Firefox. If the pop-up blocker isn't enough, AdBlock Plus should stop those unwanted windows from appearing.

Go to noscript.net and download the noscript add-on for firefox.
This will give you complete control over popups and javascripting.

Best4scan is a well known malicious site and whatever site you were visiting is probably working with them. Be very careful about which sites you visit.
Legitimate websites will not have popups from best4scan.

Thankyou , very useful info, my partner was googling "fishing lures" and clicked on a new site. These nasties are everywhere.
