Canon zr50 not recognized in Firewire profiler or imovie

I have a canon zr 50, which worked fine before the upgrade to tiger and imovie HD, since the upgrade this camera no longer works or is supported? http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/camcorders.html the zr 40, and 45 are supported which are the same camera but the top of the line zr 50 which only adds an accesory shoe is not. This camera is not old by any standards and does not have a scratch on it and Apple wants me to buy a new camera just so it is supported? What gives? Should I spenda couple of hundred bucks on a camera that may not work in two months on Ilife'06 or leopard?

You might try trashing the iMovie preferences, shutting down, restarting your computer with the ZR50 attached and "on". Then start iMovie. Make sure there are no other FW devices that handle video or sound connected and that the FW connection for the camera is direct( eg. not through a hub). The ZR 50 is not that different than the previous models. Canon tends to be touchy as a camera. You also could use QT 7.0X as a test to see if your camera can communicate with your computer. There are other posts on this Forum about how to handle DV cameras, like Canon's, that are "touchy".

I had a similar issue with my CANON Optura 40 earlier this year.

First, does the Mac see the camera at all when you connect it? Do you hear a chime?

I actually had to do this, connect it to my IBM Thinkpad and wait for it to recognise it. Then I unplugged it from the ThinkPad and plugged it into the Mac. At that point it recognised it and did so from that point on.

One final thing, make sure you have it plugged into the power outlet, for some reason some units don't send the same power when using battery as when using the A/C outlet.

Hope it helps.
