no audio in imovie HD

when I import video either from a file on my hard drive or with my DV bridge from a VCR there is no audio on the video clip in imovie HD. If I import audio from itunes, that audio is heard during playback. Anyone know what the problem could be.

Hi Bart - welcome to the forum!
Firstly ensure that the check box at the right- hand end of the timeline is checked.

What type of files are they? If they are MPEGs they must first be converted to DV.

I had made sure the box was checked before and it wasn't working. after your advice, i tried one of the movies I imported with my DV bridge and for some reason the audio is now working and I didn't change anything.
However, the mpg files i imported still have no audio. Is there a certain way i need to convert them? I originally used the File-Import command and the clips show they are in DV format.
So if you have any other ideas i'd appreciate the help.

Hi Bart - there is a free app. called StreamClip that can do conversions for you - look here:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
You may also need a $20 Apple MPEG2 PlayBack, but try StreamClip first.

so i downloaded StreamClip and that worked for my mpg problem, thanks. Then i imported a clip from my vcr again and tested it and it had audio, then i tried again later and it wouldn't play back the audio. then I tried a video that I had added music to from itunes, that had worked previously and now that audio won't play either. It's seems like it only works at random times, but there has to be something causing the problem. any other help would be VERY appreciated.
