touch screen jittery, glitchy

hi,

my ipod touch 2G's touch screen is really glitchy. when i try to type, once i try to click on a letter, it will type several other letters around it. when i try to scroll up to down, it will get erratic and scroll up and down several times really fast. when i try to click on an app on the home screen, it will sometimes open another app whose button is far away from where i clicked.

i was wondering if there was a way to fix this, or see where the problem is, or if this is a permanent hardware problem where i have to send the ipod back to apple.

thanks.

I won't make any fat finger jokes, I promise. I would try reseting the iPod and if that doesn't do it, I would restore it.

Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Then release the keys. Before you get that far, you will see the red off slider appear. Ignore that and keep holding the keys.

Restore: Plug your iPod into your computer. When it is done syncing you will have several options on the Summary page. Click the Restore button. This will completely clean off your software and apps and reload everything.

If neither of those work, it's time to return it to the Apple store (make a reservation first) or send it in for repair.
