ColorSync Utility won't open

When I launch ColorSync Utility, it appears on the menu bar but none of the menus work, and the app goes unresponsive about 20 seconds later. It will launch successfully, and seemingly operational when a graphic is opened from the context menu using Open With... ColorSync.

After launching in this manner, File > New Utility Window does not work.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Another user posted the very same issue about 18 months ago but unfortunately he received no responses.

Thanks,

Jerry

Carolyn,

Thanks for your suggestion. For anyone who may be following along, I had to open a graphic with ColorSync Utility to get ColorSync Utility to launch. Then I clicked the Show Filter Inspector icon in the Toolbar of the ColorSync window that the graphic opened in. That brought up a window with six tabs, one of which is Profile First Aid. In Profile First Aid, I clicked Repair. Here's the result:

(Please let me know if you can't see the graphic. I had a case of difficulty with that yesterday.)

If you can see the graphic, you will be able to notice that five profiles have errors and none were repaired. The Epson Perfection 4180 is my flatbed scanner. I have no idea what the other devices are.

If the graphic is not accessible, here's the text from the repair attempt:

Searching for profiles...
Checking 27 profiles...
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/EPSON Perfection4180
Tag 'dmnd': Tag size is not correct. Could not be fixed.
Tag 'dmdd': Tag size is not correct. Could not be fixed.
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/EPSON Perfection4180 TPU
Tag 'dmnd': Tag size is not correct. Could not be fixed.
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/EW-CIE RGB
Tag 'desc': Tag size is not correct. Could not be fixed.
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/EW-SMPTE
Tag 'desc': Tag size is not correct. Could not be fixed.
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/EW-sRGB
Tag 'dmnd': Tag size is not correct. Could not be fixed.
Repair done - 0 out of 5 profiles fixed.

Any further insight would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Jerry

Carolyn,

Some additional information that may be useful in determining what is going on...

. Calculator pane seems to function normally.
. Filters pane looks normal, but all selections are grayed-out.
. Devices List shows my iMac Display and my printer profiles, but no Scanner or Camera.
. Installed ColorSync Profiles lists all the same profiles that were in the un-repairable list and attributes all the un-repairable ones to Epson.
. The Preferences tab shows that no Default Profiles have been set and the CMMs Preferred CMM pop-up is set to the only option: Automatic.
. When the Preferences tab is selected, I get a perpetual spinning gear on the right below the Toolbar.

I'm going to guess at this point that you may suggest that I look for updated Epson scanner drivers, but I'll wait to see what you think.

Thanks,

Jerry
