In iWork '09 there is a feature allowing us to merge datas from Numbers in a Pages document.

    Look in my iDisk:

    an download:
    For_iWork:iWork '

What I do with this script for labels may be used do put several records on a sheet as we are able to do in an AW6 Database Report.

Thank you, Yvan: I'll have a look at this, but it will have to be tomorrow.

Yvan, I downloaded your preparemerge_2labels script and followed the following procedure:

    1. Copied the data from AppleWorks
    2. Pasted it into cell B2 of a Numbers spreadsheet.
    3. Ran your script.

The result is a second table, with three rows, and columns labelled 'label 1 field 1', 'label 2 field 2' and so on: I can't see where to go from here.

I've posted this sheet, and also the Pages document into which the results are supposed to be pasted, at so you can have a look at it if you want.

I did investigate the Merge option in Pages, and I can see that's intended for Mail Merge, but I can't see how to apply it in this case.

It would be useful to read chapter 11 of Pages User Guide.

The merge function is a quite clone of the one available in AppleWorks.
The difference is that here datas aren't grabbed fom a DB but from Numbers.

    Thanks, I'll do that.

In the unlikely event that anyone is still following this very long thread, just to say that Yvan and I are continuing to experiment via email (the forum is getting an unwieldy way of doing this) - basically he is sending me various scripts, and if they don't work on my complicated documents I tell him so and then he tells me why this is. We are making progress (strictly speaking he is, and probably when he's got it working reliably he will be able to use the results in a final script he can publish.

If Apple had designed Pages to behave properly (e.g. allowing Copy/Apply Rulers) we wouldn't have to go through all this.

But this news wasn't news to me.... and I needed it. Perfect posts to read. Thanks!
