Delete it from the phone and from iTunes. Redownload it from the App Store. Note that even paid apps can be redownloaded for free:

That's exactly what I did, I even went a step further and synced the iPhone a second time after I removed the APP just so I would have the recent backup sans the APP. However, when I reloaded, the data associated with the APP reloaded too.
