Q: ITunes Access Privileges Error?!?!

Hello,

I'm in desperate need of the vast knowledge and experience of all you experts...
Been receiving this error message every time I try to sync my iPod with my iTunes folder or my Wife's.

Attempting to copy to the disk " iPod" failed.
You do not have enough access privilege for this operation.
iTunes could not save to you iTunes Music Folder because you do not have write access. Check your permissions on your Music Folder and folders in your Music Folder, then try copying this file again.

This has got me really stumped?!?!?!?!
The permissions on the "iTunes Music" folder for Admin and Everyone are Read + Write????
(unknown) is Read only.
Not sure what else to do.
I've done the 5 R's on the iPod and even wiped the drive clean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance.

Well...this is what worked for me...

    • running OSX
    • multiple iTunes folders (per user)
      • stored on external hd
    • iTunes folder still on internal hd
    • jacks up when iTunes updates (weekly?)
    • no issues downloading to/from iPhone/iPad
    • I have the iTunes account set up, and am the admin on the computer...not the other users

Go into each iTunes folder on external hd, right click, get info, confirm (me) has read/write access...if no...change...hit the "gear"...close

Find iTunes folder on internal hd...in Library....iTunes...right click, get info, confirm (me) has read/write access....if no...change...hit "gear"...close

I've had to do both in the past to resolve. Annoying...but this works for me.

    Good luck

I had this problem and I assume the above solutions would work,

but it turned out that it wasn't my music folder that was having problems,

it was my Ipod photo cache folder.

This video helped me fix it (the second half of it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCJUGZPcvQU

So, make sure the permisions are set on whatever  picture folder you are using for your ipod touch/ iphone to you.

Set the "owner" to the name of your computer account and give full control to it.

    In other words,

Right click on folder you keep photos in,

    click properties

    go to security

where it says owners and stuff like that, click Edit

    Then click Add

Type in the name of your user account, hit check names

Once you have that, check full control in the allowance boxes which should check them all

    Hope this works for you!

The solution that worked for me was to Right Click on Macintosh HD>Get Info>Change privileges to Read & Write>apply to enclosed items. The same approach with just the iTunes folders and subfolders didn't work. Nor with the Library folder.  Trial and error, I kept moving up the ladder to Macintosh HD and success.  I opened Store and Check for Available Downloads and all is well. Hope this helps.

I had this problem after adding a new user account.  Using the disk utility to repair disk permissions fixed my problem.

    Thanks bartsterckx!

I am having a lot of trouble and increasing frustration.  I'm getting the "You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."  I'm very frutrated because first it was only apps, and I found a way to download them on the ipod instead, but now it's also podcasts.  I can listen to them on itunes, but they have an exclamation point next to them, and they won't sync onto my ipod!  I have tried resetting permissions, and repairing permissions, and have even tried the terminal fix.  None of it worked.  When I go into my music folder, then itunes, then itunes media, there are no music files, though.  There seem to be no music files under itunes anywhere.  Where could they be?  Could this be part of my problem?

    Please help!!!!!

I figured out my problem!  I had to go to preferences in iTunes, then change the folder my iTunes files were going to.  They were going to just the iTunes folder, so I changed it to the iTunes Media folder, and voila!  Everything started to download!

do you need to change the file name in preferences?

I have the same problem I have already repaired permissions and also gone to itunes folder and made sure system administrators and my user account had read write access

Phone still backs up and sync's but doesn't transfer purchases as this is when i get this error

i'm using the latest update of mavericks and itunes and Iphone 5S with the latest update

    Any other ideas?

if you keep getting the error message for not being able to sync to iTunes this is the most crucial part on how to get those permissions back

This helped me but it wasn't the identical problem but it led me in the right direction,

What I did was searched 'iTunes' and found:

    Macintosh HD >> Library >> Frameworks >> iTunesLibrary.framework

That's the folder I finally found to change to Read & Write that worked for me.

NOTE: Before I found this folder, I also changed R&W on a few other iTunes folders, all in different places. I hope I didn't mess up my hard drive in the process. I might go back and run repair disk permissions to make sure it's all good. I bought this computer less than one year used from a photographer who said he barely used it. He wiped it clean but apparently there were still remnants of his old admins and such that I think messed me up.

Tried all these other crazy methods without success. Yours worked with one simple command. Thank you!
