How do I use .swf files?

I trawled through a whole lot of dishonest and rubbish and deceptive websites after Googling for "virtual piano Mac OS X" (all I want is a simple virtual keyboard where I can click on the keys to generate notes, which is not something I can do in GarageBand), but the only thing I found in the end was a .swf file download.

Their website says it needs EITHER Internet Explorer OR Macromedia Flash Player in order to use this file. Unfortunately, I only have Flash embedded in Safari, not a standalone app. I went as far as nearly downloading Flash 10 from Adobe, but on the final screen, it listed "compatible browsers", leading me to think I was not downloading a standalone player, but merely a browser plug-in, which I already have.

This is a kind of vicious circle - how can I play / use a .swf without IE or the standalone player?
