New Mac Mini dvd drive replacement

I would like to know the answer as well. I can't see why it wouldn't work, when I got into my mini to upgrade the HDD the DVD drive looked like a standard laptop slot drive. Let us know how it goes.

AFAIK the current version of OSX Leopard doesn't support BlueRay. Maybe soon, though.

although we are not supposed to speculate about future apple products we can assume that eventually blu-ray support will come.

However until then in theory you could use bootcamp and boot into windows vista or windows 7 as it has bluray support. We dont know if the nvidia chipset supports blueray in windows thought.

The only thing to be concerned about is your monitor. If you are not connected using the mini display port to a digital input on your monitor then bluray movies wont play. Also your monitor has to be hdcp compliant.

I would love to test this however I need to find a place that will let me try the blu-ray drive on a 10 day return basis.

I doubt that OS X will have Blu-Ray support, at least with Steve still commanding Apple.

Around the time Blu-Ray was introduced, Steve referred to it as "a bag of hurt."

That wasn't when Blu-Ray was announced it was like last year. He was saying that licensing it was a bag of hurt, not that they wouldn't eventually be in Apple products. Not sure if that licensing picture is clearer now, but I think the smart person thinks it's when, not if Blu-Ray is supported.

Blu-Ray is supported (audio, video, data) under BootCamp/Vista/Win.7.
With Leopard using Toast you can read/wright data files only.

Well now that Oracle bought Sun and therefore will get a royalty from every blu-ray sale I don't know if it's longer we will have to wait now?

Well I got a bluray drive in my PC rig I could pull out and connect to my mini and test this out but that's way too much work besides I could just google it and find out which I did:

p.s. Since the 9400 video that comes with the 2009 mini is HDCP compliant you should be able to use the DVI adapter it came with and you'll get smooth video since the 9400 was designed for high definition playback!
