3GB RAM into 2.0GHz MacBook (MA700LL/A)?

Hi, I recently picked up a used MacBook for my daughter in very good shape. It came with the stock 1GB of RAm and I would like to max it out. The tech specs ( http://support.apple.com/kb/SP23 middle model as far as I can tell) state that the max for this device is 2GB, but I'm getting the feeling from a few aftermarket sites that it can support up to 3GB. Could this be correct, or are these sites mixing this model with later versions? Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Keith.
