What are the chances of a second logic board failure in another 12-15 months?
Probably low, but there's no way to predict with any accuracy.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?
Make sure that your system is getting clean power - a $12.00 hardware-store-special surge protector will cause more harm than good - and take precautions against static shocks by using antistatic spray on carpets, using antistatic mats, etc. If you install any components such as RAM, take appropriate antistatic measures.
I hate to think that the longevity of this Intel line of is around 3 years.
It's not.
Any other Imac owners out there who have experienced a logic board failure after a few months?
Of course some have. But the vast majority have had no problems. At my previous job we had a number of Intel-based iMacs (not to mention dozens of other Mac models) and none experienced any failures at all. Accumulating statics involving literally hundreds of computers, the Macs were at least as reliable as any other brand of computer and better than many of the other brands we had.
Sorry your system failed, but that can happen with any product at any time. The chances of it happening again to your system are slim unless there are environmental factors that might cause damage.
Regards.
