I bring my MacBook Pro to and from work on a daily basis, and I'd like to minimize the number of cables I need to connect and disconnect each time. To that end, I was wondering: if I used a powered USB hub with an AirPort extreme, could I connect my external hard drive, keyboard, and mouse and simply leave them essentially permanently attached to it? Add to that not having to connect my ethernet cable, and that would reduce by three the number of devices I'd have to plug and unplug (mouse plugs into keyboard, so it's three, not four) -- essentially leaving only the monitor and power adaptor). The idea would be that, as soon as my computer recognizes the wireless network, it would also recognize all four of the devices that are connected to the AirPort Extreme (cable modem, external HD, keyboard, and mouse). And if it would work, how robust would the connections be -- would I notice any glitches, or any difference in performance, vs. attaching my wired USB mouse and keyboard directly to my laptop? I'm guessing it's the kind of idea that sounds great in theory, but has problems in practice -- but you tell me.
