Can't Delete Events or Calendars

Hello,

I have a very modest iCal setup, 3 calendars, syncs only to my personal iPhone, no MobileMe backup.

Today I copied an event to the clipboard and pasted it in somewhere else. That led quickly to a situation where new events and calendars could be created but not deleted. Deleting or moving an event or calendar causes it to reappear immediately. My calendar is now corrupt and full of garbage I can't get rid of.

In order of preference, can someone tell me how to:

1) Stop this happening
2) Restore from iPhone, overwriting the iCal data on the computer
3) Wipe the current iCal calendar entirely so I can start from scratch, as if I had never used iCal before

Option 3 would involve probably less than 5 minutes of work repopulating the new calendar, so if the other two options are difficult or involved, it would be preferable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The problem is solved.

The command that solved the problem was:

*sudo chmod -a# 0 ~/Library/Preferences/*

The brief shell script that diagnosed the problem was:

#!/bin/sh
*ls -l@ed /*
*ls -l@ed /Library/*
*ls -l@ed /Library/Preferences/*

echo

*ls -l@ed ~/*
*ls -l@ed ~/Library/*
*ls -l@ed ~/Library/Preferences/*

*exit 0*

The problem arose when a calendar event was copied to the clipboard, then pasted back to a different day, during an iTunes 7.1 software update.

Okay, so I was able to get it to work too. Nueron's directions helped, and you don't need to be computer savvy to make it work. Here is what to do:

1. Open up terminal (you can find it with spotlight)
2. copy and paste the following line of text into the terminal:
sudo chmod -a# 0 ~/Library/Preferences/
3. Hit enter.
4. It will ask for your password. Type your password, no stars or dots will show up, but that is normal. Hit enter again.
5. Voila! Problem solved.

what exactly is that command doing... have had this problem for months!
can't register with mobile me....
can't delete groups (they reappear) ...
can't delete events (they reappear) ...
now as of today for some unknown reason, (some) people on 10.4.11 cannot open invites from my 10.5.6....

use iCal and mobileme on multiple computers for YEARS with no problems.

this with the problems used to have missing sync for palm as well... cannot remove them from login items either, they too just keep reappearing.

HELP!

I tried the sudo command, but that didn't help. I still have a recurring calendar event that I cannot stop and cannot delete.

I delete the event; it asks me if I want to stop the current or all future ones; I choose all and it disappears. Then I switch to Day, Week, or Month from whichever one I was viewing, and the event reappears.

I stop the occurrence of the event and do the same thing; it still returns.

Help?

I have had this problem for about two weeks. At first I thought it was tied in with sync with MobileMe, because if I did remove or edit an entry on MobileMe first, then I could remove it from my computer's iCal. After a thorough chat with a MobileMe rep in which we resynced, etc., the problem still existed.

I'm not hugely computer savvy, but I decided to do the "sudo" entry in Terminal neurons recommended. Voila again! It worked
