UK HD movies

I've just installed the latest version of iTunes and when the install was finished I selected the store, which initially took me into the US store. I then saw that there were a number of films available to buy/rent in HD, including 'Quantum of Solace'. I clicked to buy this as an HD film and logged in, which took me (as expected) to the UK store, but once in the UK store I discovered that this film isn't available in HD.

Having looked around it appears that no films are available in HD in the UK store ... why on earth not!!! It gets very frustrating when these versions are available in other countries, but not here in the UK. Why are we essentially being censored over what we can purchase?

I'd love to hear the real reason for this - especially as this is one of the big things that it stopping me from getting an AppleTV.

This has been covered here countless times, but again: content is licensed by the rights holders on a country by country basis. Just because Apple has been able to obtain the rights to release an item, or a particular format of an item, in one country means nothing for Apple's ability to release the same item in any other country. Rights have to be negotiated separately for each country. So if there's something not available in the UK iTunes Store (or any other country's Store), it's because Apple has not yet been able to obtain the rights to offer it there.
