Resolution 1680x1050 gone.

Hi everybody,

Been spending from 8am-4pm searching this forum for any solutions, but sadly no luck.

The setup I'm using is:
Macbook 13" Inch Aluminium. (Late 2008)
Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22 inch LCD Monitor.
Mini DisplayPort to VGA connector.

This has always worked before the Mini DisplayPort to VGA connector update. Some people said there were some flickering issues, but got easily fixed with third party apps by pushing the Hz up to 60Hz.

Since I've updated my Mini DisplayPort to VGA connector (yes Apple released a update for the connector), the option to choose 1680x1050 resolution on my Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22 inch LCD Monitor is gone. (yes mirroring is disabled)

After trying everything I could, my harddrive died on my, luckily I had a 1:1 backup so I plugged that one in and checked the resolutions again. But no, no resolution that where close to 1680x1050.

I've tried 1600x1024 or 1900x1200, but not suitable and give blurry screens on my Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22 inch LCD Monitor.

Anyone out there that can help me?
Thanks!

If you are having trouble getting your Mac to "see" the correct resolutions of your monitor, it may be a problem with your VGA cable. I spent hours of time working with Apple support, diagnosing the problem, running tests, updating software and so on.

Despite the fact that the cable SEEMED to be working, I tried a different VGA cable and all my issues went away.

The 1680x1050 that I was looking for was magically there.

Same problem with my mini. Re-installed leopard today from my 10.5.6 disk. No problems until I let it update to 10.5.7. Instantly won't recognize my monitor as 1680x1050. Yes. I know the cable is fine. It was working 5 minutes ago (and has been all day) cable also works with my macbook pro (which is running 10.5.7, no issues with the monitor).

Monitor is a 22: HP

Same here - as soon as I upgraded to 10.5.7 I lost the 1680x1050 resolution.
tried it both with my 2 years old mini and my year old unibody MackBook - same result - FAILURE.
Any way that apple can provide a fix for this extremely annoying issue - this is obviously a software bug. Monitor is HANNSPREE HF299H.

Resolution 1680x1050 gone.
