Q: FIX for iPod Touch Home Button

Hi Everyone- first post.

I decided to register for this forum after finding a definitive 100% fix for a 1st gen iPod Touch 16gb home button unresponsive or nonfunctional.

1. Place 1 drop of rubbing alcohol on the home button.
2. Press the button repeatedly with pencil eraser making sure to get liquid into area surrounding button.
3. Dry off area with paper towel.
4. Press home button until it works again.

I was ready to buy a new one- and this was my last ditch effort. Now it works like new!

Hope this is helpful- be careful with the amount/type of liquid used- do not use water!!

I was ready to take my iPod touch 4th gen apart and came across this. I used a alcohol pad and squeezed the access liquid as I pressed the home button constantly. Then I blew in the dock port for the **** of it and it's smoother than even!! I've had this thing since its release and it started having home button issues about a month ago. Thanks!!!

I tried this, and it worked for a minute, and then the button fell out! And it also made pieces of glass fall out. This method completely ruined my chances of having a fixed ipod. For everyone reading this, DO NOT TRY THIS!

You must have also dissolved the adhesive that keeps the glass to the iPod, along side the dust stuck underneath it. As for the home button, you must have broken it - either the spring, or the part that the circle holds the spring.

hi, this was my solution without fixing the home buttom

    First: go to SETTINGS

Second: go to GENERAL and open up ACCESSIBILITY

Third: in PHYSICAL & MOTOR click ASSISTIVE TOUCH and turn it ON

Now you will have a home button in the left side on the top of your touch screen.

Hi I've been reading through the posts as I'm having same problem recently with my iPod touch 4 and the home button. I went to settings then scrolled down to notifications and pretty much shut off almost all of them and it helped a great deal. My home button is now responding again. I had added an app from Comcast called  " what's on " and I think that was the one in the notifications that was causing the real problem. This is what I found helped me so just thought someone else might find it helpful. I got the idea by looking at the diagnostic info in the settings menu.

I just wanted to add that you can find the diagnostic info by going to settings, general, about, and then scroll down to bottom of page and on my itouch it says diagnostics and usage. There you can see all the problems that have occurred on your device. At least I could, I have opted out of sending this info to apple so not sure if that makes a difference on what shows up there. Anyway that's how I got the idea of seeing which  applications were listed the most in the problems and when they started to show up. Before I tried uninstalling them I first tried disabling them in the notifications and this made a huge improvement for me with the home button responding again.

Well, thank the Lord cause it worked for me. It's kinda vague like i kinda have to press it a little hard but its better than having assistive touch lag.

But, I noticed Assistive Touch takes a great deal of your ram and makes your ipod lag.

Much better alternative to rubbing alcohol is CONTACT CLEANER. My iPhone 4's home button was stuck, and 2 months after using contact cleaner it still works perfectly fine.

This is a video I made about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixnVNhTFYfk

Contact cleaner (somehow) breaks down the dust and other crap underneath the home button. I posted a link to the contact cleaner I bought in the description of the video.

there is a way to quit an application without using the homebutton ofcourse... and i have the same problem with my home button as well.

now if u go to settings > general > accessibility > (scroll down) and you'll find assisstive touch > (Turn On)

This will make a little circle appear on the side of the screen that can help u do all sorts of stuff with out using buttons including the volume, locking the screen, roatating screen, closing windows and all sorts of stuff....

Hope it helps like it helped me...

You should take it in to an Apple Store Genius Bar.
