Apr 3, 2012 11:58 AM in response to Ipsisby xCalumx,I tried the alchohol trick and it didn't work...
But the other day our teenage daughter showed me the Assistive touch idea the other day as mentioned in your post and it works and is about the only fix I have found without trading in my iPod touch 4 was to go into:
I find it took some practice to use, especially during taking screen caps but better then not having a working Ipod Touch. Thanx for the vid link as well Mr. Ipsis. :)
Cheers!

Apr 3, 2012 12:23 PM in response to xCalumxby Ipsis,Hey, I'm glad it helped! Please tell me, how do you take screen caps on your iPod Touch 4 using Assistive Touch?

Apr 3, 2012 1:12 PM in response to Ipsisby xCalumx,Darn I thought the screen cap still worked, I mean if one can manage the dexterity and timing it works at taking the pic only it leaves the image of the control box in the pic as well.
~sadface~
Well at least my iPod is some what functional again... Aside of course for Safari still crashing but that's yet another issue. ~sigh~

Apr 11, 2012 6:55 PM in response to tonybeyondoby Themaker213,If it still doesn't work, there must be a hardware problem. It could not be fixed, just bring it to an apple store and they would exchange it for free (under warranty) or you would have to pay for it (without warranty)

Apr 17, 2012 4:15 PM in response to tonybeyondoby Brad0012,Something Everyone can do as a temporary or permanent fix if you're not bothered by it is on your iPod go to settings then select General then go to Accessiblity then go down to Assetive Touch and turn it on. This replaces the home button fully, but its annoying and gets in the way at times but it's better than nothing.

Jun 3, 2012 5:47 PM in response to tonybeyondoby John Sandoval,Thought I would chime in. I have the latest version of iPod touch and was having problems with the home button. I was certain it was software, but my wife's iPhone doesn't have this problem, so that led me to believe it was hardware. It's literally less than 4 months old, so I was really peaved considering I have an iPod classic from 2008 that still works perfectly. Anyways, two things. 1. As an electronics/avionics technician, try to avoid any harsh solvents or isopropol alcohol when cleaning the home button. If the solvent is too harsh it could cause damage to the switch or the circuitry, and isopropol has water in it, which is not good for electronics. As someone mentioned before, try to purchase electrical contact cleaner or denatured alcohol for cleaning electronic switches. 2. Before trying any chemicals, try the method that another mentioned of holding the button down and blowing into the connector port (interface and charging port at the bottom). This worked for me and the button immediately started working better. When I first bought my iPod touch, I carried it in my front pants pocket a lot, and my theory is I think that lint and/or dust got in between the button and switch, causing it to be unresponsive. The alcohol trick will work if you've spilled something on the button, or if the unit is much older and thus more dirty. But if it's newer, try blowing it out first. Just my $.02.

Jun 12, 2012 12:55 PM in response to tonybeyondoby ali1357,its works!! i had read this some where else i did a combination of the compressed air and tape head cleaning solution, but some did go into my screen got a dark cloud used a powerful hair dryer on the screen and it evaporated the liquid(did a bit at a time so not to over heat my touch) its all back to normal now well done to the poster.
