How to hook up an Analog mixer with Logic

Im running a MOTU Traveler with a MOTU 2408 via ADAT, giving me 18 Analog ins and outs.

I want to hook up an inline analog mixer (that has at least 16 tape sends and returns) so that i can Track and Mix through the mixer.

How do i set up the mixer in logic to go out mono on ADAT 1, 2, 3, 4 etc etc

It defaults to out 1-2 but i need individual outs not stereo outs

Cheers

I don't know what any of that external equipment is (some people on this Forum will do, but most will not), however, leaving that aside, it looks as if the question you want answered is:

+How do you get more Outputs from Logic than just the stereo Master Outputs?+

The answer is that it will depend on the driver for your interface. Assuming your interface supports multiple outputs from Logic, then you will be able to set them up in

+Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup+

Once you've done this, you should be able to choose any of those Outputs for each Output object in the Environment. If you need help creating new Output objects, LMK & I can take you through it; but probably that's already enough info to get you going…

Okay. (First, I assume you don't literally mean you want the Output to go to the Input, but are just referring to +Analog Input 1+ & +Analog Output 1+ in shorthand!)

The first thing is to check that your interface supports individual Outputs from Logic (many only support stereo pairs). This should be evident in +Audio MIDI Setup.+ If it only supports pairs, then you will have to pan each Track fully left or right to get separation. However, if it does support individual Outputs from Logic, then you need to be sure that each channel you are dealing with is a Mono channel, & not Stereo. There is a little symbol which tells you this, near the bottom.

The bottom line is that the options available in the Output selector are the options provided by your interface's driver (software), so if it gives you a choice of:
+Out 1-2+
+Out 3-4+
+Out 5-6+
+Out 7-8+
…etc., then those will be your only options, & you will have to resort to panning. However, if you have an Output object & it allows individual channels to be selected, then you're in luck!

There is an ugly and generally unpleasant work-around 😉

Create however many mono busses you need to interface with your hardware. On each bus, insert an I/O plug-in with its output set to output 1, 2, 3 etc.

Now route the output of each of your tracks to whichever bus you choose, instead of Output 1-2.

The good thing is you can set this up once and save it as a template for future use.
