iPhone Photo Management using Vista PC - Frustrated & Confused!

Hi, Thanks in Advance & Sorry if this is a seemingly redundant topic. It's just that I've been trying to get this figured out for too much time now with no luck. I've searched the board here but have not found the answers I'm looking for.

I'm using a PC running Windows Vista.

I have 229 pictures on my camera I'd like to get onto my computer but cannot figure out how to do so. This really shouldn't be so difficult should it? Why doesn't APPLE have a file swap folder for PHOTOS the same as they do for Music & Videos? Anyway I can't figure out how to accomplish the task. Following is what I've tried thus far.

I tried to use the Photo tab for my iphone in iTunes. When I checked the "Sync Photos from" box, I got the following pop-up

+"Are you sure you want to sync photos? All existing photos & albums on the iPhone XXXXX's iPhone" will be replaced with photos and albums from the selected folder.+ *[ Sync Photos ] or [ Cancel ]*

I don't want to lose the Photos on my iPhone so I don't have the nerve to click the *[ Sync Photos ]* button.

I've also tried using the "Import from Camera or Scanner" option from within "Windows Photo Gallery" When I click on the "Import from Camera or Scanner" I get the following in a pop-up;

+If you do not see your device in the list, make sure it is connected to the computer & turned on, then choose Refresh.+

There's a box in that pop-up where I guess my devise should be listed but it's blank. SO it's either not being recognized as a Camera of there's a glitch with Windows Photo Gallery.

When I read the Apple iPhone online .pdf manual on Page 5 in the "What you need" section, referring to what you need for the iPhone, it doesn't state that you need anything special for transferring Photo's
But when you get to Page 76 at the bottom of the page it clearly states:

*Syncing Photos with Your Computer*
+iTunes can sync your photos with the following applications:+
+O Mac: iPhoto 4.0.3 or later, or Aperture+
+O PC: Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 or later, or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 or later+

Then, on the Top of page 77 it states;

+See “What You Need” on page 5.+

So I'm a little at a loss here. On page 5 it doesn't say you need anything special for photos but on page 77 it says you do, then it refers you back to page 5....... Yikes!

I really don't think I should have to buy a 3rd party program to transfer pictures from this thing.

If someone could give me a simple way to tranfer my pictures to my camera that doesn't consist of emailing 229 pictures I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Cody

As a note to Apple--

This really shouldn't be so difficult. Not everyone has a MAC. If you're going to make iPhoto the default photo program for the iPhone then build a version for PC users!

Your choice to use that swiss cheese for security POS operating system that doesn't include some basic software for photo management and storage. Any initial savings with a less expensive PC box goes out the window when having to purchase additional items like antivirus software and paying for it on an annual basis, and having to purchase photo management and storage software. My personal money has never gone towards that POS operating system and never will, which is nothing but a poor upside down and backwards copy of Apple's GUI anyway. I've always had to use and suffer with Windows at work. I'm not interested in paying for that luxury with my personal computer at home.

Have you ever imported photos from any digital camera with your computer? If so, importing photos from your iPhone's camera roll is the same as importing photos from a digital camera. You can import photos from a digital camera to wherever you want on your computer's hard drive - you don't need to use photo management software. There are some Mac users who don't like using iPhoto for photo storage, so they use the Image Capture application included with OS X which can be used to import photos from any digital camera including from the iPhone's camera roll placing the imported photos in the location of their choosing.

Especially as it seems the only option available to me to "add" photo's to my iPhone from my PC has just boned up my iPhone.

You are trying to transfer photos to your iPhone from where on your computer?

Why should Apple consider Microslop not including photo management tools with their operating system as a pretty significant problem? Not hardly. Where is the outrage at Microslop for not doing so? And BTW, you have a choice.

You are confusing the import of photos from your iPhone's camera roll with the ability to transfer photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. These are totally unrelated and completely separate processes.

The applications listed are the supported photo storing applications on a computer that you can select under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences to transfer photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. Some or all of the listed applications also support importing photos from a digital camera including from the iPhone's camera roll. When your iPhone includes photos in the camera roll, it is also detected as a digital camera by your computer, or should. Again, importing photos from the iPhone's camera roll and transferring photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process are completely different and separate processes.

In regards to the import of photos in your iPhone's camera roll, unfortunantly you have a PC which requires dealing with drivers with one outdated driver being able to cause problems with another driver potential mess along with all the other stuff that Windows users have to suffer and deal with far too often.

Argh, Just Perfect!!!

I tried to use the sync photos option. It ran throught the process, said complete at the top of itunes. I disconnected my iphone & now it's semi locked up. It was stuck in phone mode, hit the home key, still in phone mode. Tried to reboot it by holding the sleep button but no luck it'll put it to sleep & wake it up but won't reboot it. I was able to get it out of phone mode & into ipod mode by starting a song at the start screen. So now, after more fiddling & getting nowhere I have it playing a movie to hopefully drain down the batter & get it to shutdown.

This Photo Management is Wayyyyy outta wack. I hope this is addressed in this new super update in June I'm hearing about!

Sure, there's nothing to address if you're using MAC but if your on PC & there's no default Photo Management tools for the iPhone built into your system then there's evidently a pretty significant problem.

Especially as it seems the only option available to me to "add" photo's to my iPhone from my PC has just boned up my iPhone.

I got my phone back running. Had to hold the sleep button & Home key simultaneously for about 10 seconds or so.

The photos that I sync'd from my PC to the iPhone are on the phone now & in their own folder, so that's good.

Now, I just need to figure out how to get my "Camera Roll" Pictures from my iPhone to my PC. I tried to import using "Windows Photo Gallery" & "HP Photosmart Essentials 2.5" & neither worked.

Ok, I got it Fixed. I can now download my pictures from my iPhone!!!

I have a Kodak DX7590 Digital Camera. I haven't used a software interface to Download pictures since I updated my computer a few months ago, to get my pictures I've just plugged in the Cameras' SD card & used Explorer. When plugged in my Kodak it would not show up in "Windows Picture Gallery" either. So, I went to the Kodak website & Downloaded the new software for my Camera & installed it. I guess it installed new drivers too.

Now my computer can see my Kodak & my iPhone too, it shows up now in Windows Explorer, it also shows up in "Windows Picture Gallery" now where I can use the "Import from Camera or Scanner" function to finally download my iphones pictures.

Cody

Thanks for the Help.
