Creating transparent backgrounds in Keynote for export as titles in FCP
I am creating titles in Keynote and exporting them into Final Cut. I was wondering if anyone knows how to make transparent backgrounds so I can overlay the titles on videos. I have tried "include transparency" but have been unsuccessful. I haven't found any help files to address this situation.
Many thanks
1. make sure your slide background is set to NONE, no color, no image
no nothing 🙂
2. Check the Include Transparency check box when you choose the
QuickTime export
3. Choose Custom from the formats pop-up
4. Click the Settings button
5. Choose Animation or PNG from the pop-up (it probably says Sorenson)
6. Choose Millions of Colors+ from the depth pop-up
Make any other quality or frame settings, and export it. You SHOULD get
a movie that has a transparent background.
heh, I use Keynote all the time for this. Animating titles in Keynote is SO EASY compared to FCP, Motion or even Live Type. You'd be surprised at how many pro's use it too. I long for the day that Apple makes a Pro titling app as easy to use as Keynote.
Hey Brian - How would you export 1 slide or a series of individual slides from Keynote with transparent backgrounds? I tried your method however when I open the movie file in Quicktime Pro and then attempt to export it only gives me the option of exporting as a picture with the output being a .pct file.
You can try exporting out of QT Pro using the PNG format, then even though it says .pct, see if you can open it in Preview and export again as a PNG.
I do know my technique works for video, but I've never tried to export a single frame out as an image and have it keep the transparency...so I have no idea if it's possible.
