For the last week I have unable to place any type of call. I receive calls and send and receive text messages--just no ability to dial out without a CALL FAILED sign. We just did a complete restore and that solved nothing. The nearest Apple store is a few hundred miles away. Please help!
This might be caused by a defective SIM card, so if you are in the U.S. go to an AT&T corporate store telling them about the problem. If a new SIM card does not resolve this or the AT&T store is unable to resolve it, you don't need to drive to an Apple store. You can call AppleCare at (800) 694-7466 and handle everything over the phone.
Thanks amigo. I did try swapping SIM cards with a friend and mine worked on his phone but his did not work on mine. I was hoping that maybe there was a setting to check that might be prohibiting calls out. Any more ideas? I bought my phone in August so it is likely out of warranty.
The iPhone includes a one year manufacturer's warranty, so if you purchased your iPhone 3G in August of last year, the warranty on your iPhone won't expire until this August. Give AppleCare a call at (800) 694-7466.
It's unlikely his SIM would work in the iPhone since it has not been "married" to the iPhone. If you have an ATT store in the area, go to ATT and get a new SIM.
