AirPort Extreme is hot

I am new to WiFi and just purchased this a month ago. I was wondering if the AirPort Extreme is supposed to be hot. I don't set anything on top of it and I try to keep everything clear around it too. It is very warm. I can touch the top, but it worries me because it is so warm. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to cool it down? Just wondering if it is the way I set it up...
Thanks.

Hello mcwammer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

Yes, it is normal for the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to run "hot." Beneath the top surface is a rather large heat sink which is designed to allow heat to be radiated from the unit during operation.

If you're curious on what is inside, take a look at the following article: The Airport Extreme, version n, dissected.
