Get rid of "login" screen at start up!!

Go into system preference. Then go into the security tab. then uncheck the box next to "Disable automatic log in".

You can turn on automatic login from the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

You need to turn off FileVault from the Security pane of System Preferences before you can enable automatic login. If you need to encrypt some of your files and automatically login, use the Disk Utility application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create an encrypted disk image, and use that to store sensitive data.

I do not have automatic login checked and my computer still logs in automatically.

You can't use automatic login and FileVault together. They are mutually exclusive.

As Niel indicated, if you need to encrypt any of your data for security purposes, you could use an Encrypted Disk Image.

I have exactly the opposite problem?

When I try to enable automatic login, I check the checkbox, type my password and close the prefspane. But when I restart the computer , the login-screen still appears? And when I check if the preferences have changed they still indicate that Automatic login is enabled...?

I only have one user-account(admin) on this mac, but I have tried to automatically login on to a standard account without any success...

The problem has been there since the first intall of 10.4 Tiger.

Open the Security pane of System Preferences and check that the box for disabling automatic login is empty. If you've recently changed your password through the use of a Mac OS X CD or DVD, look here for some suggestions.
