Q: Is The  ATI 9600 Pro Compatible with my G4?

I'm already stuck with this graphic card, so I would like to know if it is compatible with my G4 Gigabit before installing it and run into more problems. By the way is this G4 AGP 4x or 2x? Even if I don't get any answer I would like to thank you all guys for giving all this help to us out here.

Power Mac G4 Gigabit, Mac OS X (10.3.x), PS 338W, Graphic Card: Rage 128 Pro, Dual 500 Mhz

    Hi-

    Welcome to Discussions!

Your Gigabit Ethernet is 2x AGP.
Some cards that are 4x and 8x can be used in a 2x GE, but not the Radeon 9600. That card is 4x/8x only.

It won't work in the Gigabit Ethernet or a Sawtooth.

    Hi-

    Not a problem....
The best upgrade for 2x AGP graphics is the Radeon 9800 Pro. It and the Geforce 6200 (flashed) are the only two 2x AGP cards that support Core Image.
The 9800 is a more powerful card than the Geforce, and will provide the greatest boost in graphics.
A flashed 9800 Pro (eBay/Apple Components) goes for about $90.
No compatibility worries with the 9800, from OS X 10.2.5 through all versions to the latest Leopard 10.5.6.
