CD/DVD won't eject

I want to know WHY every DVD I put in now refuses to eject. If I try to eject from the DVD player, or use the button, then it will unmount the disk and usually even stop spinning - but never actually try to eject anything. From DVD player, I usually get a random error.

I also tried drutil, and it detects a disk in my drive, but drutil eject does nothing. Oddly enough, I had Boxee running when this happened a few weeks ago, and noticed that it still recognized the disk. AND, when I select eject from Boxee - it ejects like it's no big thing. Every time, Boxee will eject the disk properly. What the heck? Why will some third party alpha app work to eject disks but the system won't? The problem first started a couple weeks ago after I burned a dvd (successfully) but the disk wouldn't stop spinning and it wouldn't eject. Shutting it off and holding the trackpad down was ultimately the only thing successful. Then a regular movie would't eject and finally another burned DVD. I'm hesitant to even use that drive anymore, but it kind of stinks to have something that should work just not. I'm outside of warranty now, unemployed and just moved away from a city with an Apple store to...West Virginia - where things clearly go to die.

Oh, I guess I just realized I changed ONE thing about my system recently - before this started happening. Upgraded the RAM - bought two 2GB sticks from Crucial. Everything else has been fine and I couldn't for the life of me think of a reason that a RAM upgrade would cause disks to not eject.
