2nd gen ipod touch stuck in dfu mode

apparently i put my ipod touch in dfu mode it shows the dfu screen

when i attach to my mb attempting to restore/ sync i get an error the ipod touch has a password enabled (it does) please enter the password before restoring... the problem is i cannot get the ipod touch out of dfu to enter the password

the error message pops up in itunes to enter the password on the ipod

try reseting your ipod by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time until the apple logo shows up.

just keep holding it down until something happens, you should hear a beep.
