If they appear in Music under the iPod in the DEVICES portion of the iTunes sidebar, those songs should be in the iPod.

You may want to use the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and initialize its software. Then re-sync or reload the iPod manually.

the songs are on the playlist

What "playlist" is that? Or are you referring to the main Music listing under LIBRARY?

Select the iPod under DEVICES and go to the right part of the iTunes window. In the Music tab, is it set to +Sync music+. If so, is it set to sync +All songs and playlists+ or +Selected playlists+ ? If +Selected playlists+, is that playlist you mentioned selected (checked) on the list?

its the music list under my ipod and thats how it is set up. its only a few songs that are missing not whole folders or artists. it doesnt work manually or auto.

the playlist i mention is the music under my ipod. i have it set to manually add songs to my ipod and if i hit synch music under the music tab, it will sync with my itunes playlist which i dont want. it has all songs and playlists filled in. like i said, there are a few songs which are listed in the music part under my ipod but when synched or added will not appear after i unhook my ipod

If you "manually add songs," which means you must have the +Manually manage music+ setting checked on the iPod's Summary tab, you cannot use the Sync button to add songs to the iPod. You have to add them manually.

So one choice is the drag the playlist and drop it onto your iPod (in the iTunes sidebar under DEVICES). That should copy any songs that are not already on the iPod to the iPod.

The other choice is to use the Autofill feature, which previously existed only for iPod shuffles. With iTunes 8.1, it is available to all iPods (if you are using the +Manually manage music+ setting). What you do is select the iPod's Music listing (under the iPod). At the bottom of the music list, there should be an Autofill button. Set the +Autofill from+ to that playlist. Then click Autofill.

nope, dont have a shuffle, i have the 30g model. but still when i drop songs onto my ipod they still dont show up. they appear on the music part under my ipod. ive tried deleting them and then re-adding them but that doesnt work either. it might just be my ipod

forgot to mention, when i do drop them onto my ipod it does say that its updating my ipod, do not disconnect, synching ipod.
